I recently had the opportunity to appear on a Webinar hosted by the Foreign Policy Research Institute on transactionalism in foreign policy and the carrots and sticks the US might deploy. The discussion followed a theme that I had raised (with some annoyance) in response to a cover story I read in The Economist last spring.
